International Student Fraud Guide
Students coming to Gulf universities — Education City, NYUAD, Khalifa, KAUST and others — are targeted with fake tuition discounts, accommodation scams and fake “admissions agents”. Here is how to keep your money and your place safe.

🎓 Fake “discounted tuition” payments
A “fellow student” or social-media agent offers to pay your tuition at a discount through their “contacts”. You transfer the money; the university never receives it. Tuition is paid only through the university’s official payment portal — never through a third party.
🏠 Accommodation scams
Fake landlords list rooms near campus, ask for a deposit before you arrive, then vanish. Use university accommodation offices or verified listings only, and never pay a deposit for a room you have not seen (or had someone view for you).
🤝 Fake admissions agents
Agents promise guaranteed admission to a top Gulf university “for a fee”. Universities do not sell places — admission is through the official application portal. Any agent guaranteeing admission is lying to take your money.
📄 Scholarship & “sponsor” phishing
Emails claim you won a scholarship or a sponsor is funding your studies, then ask for a “processing fee” or your bank details to release the funds. Real scholarships never ask for fees to release money. Verify with the university’s official office before doing anything.
🛡️ Protect your student visa status
Never pay a stranger to “maintain” or “transfer” your student visa. Visa changes go through the university’s international office and official immigration channels only. If someone threatens your visa status to get money, it is a scam — report it.
