Fake job offers that ask you to pay

A real employer pays you. Any “job” that asks for a fee first — training, uniform, visa, medical test — is a scam. Here is how it works and what to do.

What these offers look like

Fake recruiters copy the style of real job adverts and then move the conversation to WhatsApp or Telegram. These are the offers people commonly report:

“Receptionist wanted, high salary, no experience — message us on WhatsApp.”
“Work from home, weekly pay — register now and start today.”
“Your application was accepted — pay the visa and training fee to begin.”
“Restaurant job available — pay for the medical test and uniform first.”
“Complete paid tasks in our app to unlock better jobs.”
“Sign this contract — leaving early means a penalty you must pay.”

Why the fee is the whole point

The job does not exist; the fee does. It starts small — a registration or training charge — then grows: visa, medical test, uniform, “government processing”, and finally a penalty for leaving a contract you never really signed. Some offers never mention money at all and instead ask for your ID, bank details and document copies, which are then used for fraud in your name. A legitimate employer never asks a candidate for money, and never asks for banking credentials before a contract is signed. It is a complete swindle — a promise of a job that does not exist, in exchange for money up front.

⚠️ You are asked to pay any amount before starting work.
⚠️ No interview, no company address, no written contract — only WhatsApp.
⚠️ Contact is through a personal number, not the company's official recruitment channel.
⚠️ A contract with a penalty clause you are asked to accept by message.
⚠️ Requests for your bank details, ID or documents before any contract.
⚠️ Pressure to decide immediately — “today only”.
The restaurant and hotel trap
Many fake vacancies name well-known restaurants, hotels or delivery companies. The brand is being impersonated here — the company itself is a victim too and is not offering that job. Apply only through the company's own website or its official recruitment account, and confirm the vacancy exists before you send anything.
What to do if you already paid
Contact your bank or payment app immediately and ask them to stop or reverse the payment, and to block the card if its details were shared. Keep every message, account number and screenshot. Then report it — a job scam is fraud like any other, and reporting is how the accounts are closed and the numbers counted.
Check before you apply
Search the employer's official website and its careers page. If the vacancy is not listed there, treat it as unverified. Never pay for a job, never accept a penalty clause sent by message, and never send your bank details before a signed contract. Keep your passport in your own hands.
