“Your digital identity is suspended” — the message is the trap

UAE Pass, Absher, Tawakkalna, Metrash2 and Sahel are the master keys to government services, banking and property records — which is exactly why they are targeted.

What the message says

A text or email claims to come from the digital-ID app or a government department and adds urgency: your identity is blocked, expired, under review, or a fine must be paid now. The link leads to a page that copies the real sign-in screen — and everything you type is captured.

“Your UAE Pass has been suspended due to unusual activity — verify within 24 hours.”
“Your Emirates ID data needs re-verification — click here to continue.”
“Your Absher account is blocked — confirm your details.”
“Your digital identity will be closed unless you verify now.”

Why the copied sign-in screen matters

The fake page captures your ID number, your password and the one-time code. The fraudster can trigger a real OTP so the code on your screen looks genuine — then use it to reset your PIN, open services in your name or authorise a payment. Once inside your digital ID, the criminal can renew documents, read your Emirates ID or residency details, move your number onto another SIM, or open accounts. In effect it is a complete identity hack carried out in your name without your knowledge.

⚠️ Any message saying your digital ID is blocked, expired or needs re-verification through a link.
⚠️ Sign-in pages reached from SMS or WhatsApp, not from the official app.
⚠️ Domains that imitate the real portal without being it (for example u-ae-login, uae-pass-verify).
⚠️ Requests for your ID number, password and the OTP together.
⚠️ Calls from “government technical support” asking you to install anything or share your screen.
  1. Do not wait — if you shared an OTP, call your bank immediately and ask it to freeze your accounts and cards.
  2. Open the official digital-ID app and change your PIN and password; if you are locked out, use the app's official support channel.
  3. Change any password you reused on other services.
  4. Keep screenshots of the message, the link and the fake page as evidence.
  5. Report it through the official national channel for your country (below).
The rule that ends it
No government app ever asks you to “re-verify” by clicking a link in a text message — verification happens inside the official app you already have. Official services are reached through u.ae or the authority's own app, never through a link in an SMS.
The same trick, every country
The pattern is identical across the Gulf — Absher and Tawakkalna in Saudi Arabia, Metrash2 in Qatar, Sahel in Bahrain and their equivalents. Only the logo changes.
